Elopement FAQs

Is everything really included in your elopement packages — officiant, photography, ceremony and accommodations?

1

Yes! Every elopement at Nadair includes it all. Your package covers your ceremony in our private 30-acre forest, a Maine state approved officiant to guide your ceremony, in-house photography so every moment is beautifully captured, and a two night stay in the accommodations of your choosing. There are no hidden fees for guests or vendor coordination to worry about — just you, your person, your witnesses, and the forest.

How many guests can you accommodate?

2

We are a small, intimate elopement and micro-wedding venue. We can accommodate up to 20 guests for a wedding. Our Sunrise Cabin can also be utilized by our couples to host an after-ceremony celebration (an additional $100 fee applies).

What is your bad weather contingency plan?

3

Hopefully the weather will be to your liking on the day of your elopement. We can work outside with light rain, snow, or wind. If a downpour or blizzard is predicted, we may need to plan to have your ceremony/photos inside or if necessary/possible, reschedule.

What’s your date change policy?

4

We understand that sometimes it is necessary to change the dates of a reservation. In the event one of our couples is forced to change the date of their event, every effort will be made by us to transfer reservations as long as the new date is within 90 days of the original date.

What’s your cancellation policy?

5

In the event a couple needs to cancel their event, all payments made to date are non-refundable. In the event of cancellation of a wedding by Nadair Maine due to emergency conditions, or events beyond our control, all rental and deposit monies will be refunded.

Do you host multiple elopements on the same day?

6

Your elopement will be the only wedding at Nadair on your day. We do live and work on the property — our home is about 60 feet from the Sunrise Cabin — but we've positioned the buildings so no windows face each other, keeping your experience as private as possible.

Both the Sunrise Cabin and Cocoon Cottage are also available to book separately, so any guests joining you can stay right on the property.

Do you offer LGBTQ+ friendly elopements?

7

We are proud to officiate and celebrate marriages for couples of all genders and sexual orientations. Love is love, and love is beautiful.

What can we customize about our Maine forest elopement or micro-wedding?

8

We see ourselves as collaborators in helping your elopement vision come to life. We must play within the parameters of our setting, but we are so happy to hear what you are thinking and how we can support you. Most of the customization options happen within your ceremony and photography. We can help you incorporate personal touches or traditions into your ceremony, and are happy to also offer suggestions for couples who aren’t sure where to start.

Is it hard to get married in Maine?

9

No, but there are a few requirements to know ahead of time. You'll need to apply for a marriage license in person at a Maine town office. Which office depends on where you live, and we are happy to help you work through all of the details. Your license is valid for 90 days and our officiant handles all the filing after the ceremony. For full requirements, visit Maine’s official marriage license requirements.

What are your deposit requirements?

10

An initial nonrefundable deposit of 50% of the total of all fees is payable at the time of contract signature. This payment serves to hold the venue for the specified date of the wedding. The remaining total will be due 30 days prior to the date of the event.

What else should I know before booking my forest wedding at Nadair Maine?

11

Yes! Nadair is a 30-acre Maine forest — mostly wild, with carved trails and a few cabin clearings. Depending on the season, you might enjoy morning birdsong on the porch, fireflies on a summer evening, s'mores by an autumn campfire, or a sky full of stars in winter.

One honest note: we're in the middle of a Maine forest, so mid-spring through mid-autumn brings bugs. We have tricks to minimize them at the cabins and during ceremonies — but if you want zero bugs, a winter elopement might be your perfect date.

Lodging FAQs

Can we book lodging without an elopement package?

1

Yes! Both the Sunrise Cabin and Cocoon Cottage are available to book independently as vacation or retreat stays, no elopement package required. Whether you're looking for a quiet forest getaway, a romantic escape, or simply a base to explore Midcoast Maine, you're welcome at Nadair.

Is the property pet-friendly?

2

Dogs are welcome on our trails but must be kept on a leash at all times. Pets are not allowed in the Sunrise Cabin, but are welcome in the Cocoon Cottage for an additional $25/night. Service animals are always welcome in both accommodations.

Is the property accessible year-round?

3

Yes! Nadair is open year-round with no seasonal closures or blackout periods. The Sunrise Cabin is available all 12 months, and elopement ceremonies can be held in any season — each one offering its own unique beauty on the property.

Cocoon Cottage is available mid-April through mid-October. If you're dreaming of a winter stay, the Sunrise Cabin is a cozy and beautiful option, and our driveway and roads are always plowed for easy access.

Are the cabins private, or are there other guests on the property at the same time?

4

Both the Sunrise Cabin and Cocoon Cottage can be booked independently, so there may be other guests on the property during your stay. Cocoon Cottage is a 5–8 minute walk into the forest and is very private. Sunrise Cabin sits closer to the front of the property, near our home — but we've designed both buildings so no windows face each other, keeping your experience as private as possible. And with 30 acres of forest surrounding you, there's plenty of space to feel completely alone in nature.

What can we do during our stay at Nadair Maine?

Nadair sits on 30 acres of Maine forest with trails to explore, fire pits, and plenty of stargazing. Just 20 minutes away, the charming coastal town of Belfast, Maine offers restaurants, shops, and a wealth of outdoor adventures to explore.
